Memory Limitations

Since many operations with high resolution 3D/4D imaging data require a lot of memory (RAM) in your machines, here's a little overview of certain steps together with their respective needs.

Please keep in mind that due to the system inherent memory mapping, Windows often does not allow the occupation of very large pieces (chunks) of memory as one contiguous block. This limitation means that whenever there is a requirement for more than approx. 850MByte of RAM, Windows might refuse to do the math. We are currently working on solutions that will allow the calculations even in such cases. As a temporary workaround, please consider using a more memory management apt OS, such as MacOS or Linux, which fully support using memory blocks as large as the largest free block in the address range (usually up to 3GB).
